Why Resilient Roots?

Nurturing Growth ~ Strengthening Resilience

Welcome to your judgment-free zone—where feelings are valid, growth is celebrated, and awkward silences are totally okay (we’ve mastered the art of the compassionate head nod). We’re here to make therapy feel less like a chore and more like a meaningful conversation—with someone who actually listens and doesn’t just say “mm-hmm” every five seconds.

We work with you, not on you—no cookie-cutter advice or one-size-fits-all solutions. Just real talk, tailored support, and goals that make sense for you. Whether you’re untangling anxiety, navigating depression, processing trauma, or just figuring out what’s next, we’re on your team (think: supportive sidekick energy with a dash of humor).

Basically, we’re here to help you heal, grow, and feel more like yourself—just with a little extra resilience and maybe a few solid coping skills in your back pocket.

Resilient Roots, Counseling and Consulting located in Charlotte, NC has a dog in office for therapy.

🐾 Meet Charlie

The Best Four-Legged Therapy Companion

Around here, healing doesn’t just happen through words—it also happens through connection, presence, and sometimes, a very good boy named Charlie.

Charlie is a calm and affectionate Border Collie/Lab mix who joins Natalie in sessions as a comforting presence. Whether he’s curled up nearby or quietly offering support with a nuzzle or kiss, his gentle nature helps create a space that feels safe, relaxed, and grounded.

Clients say Charlie helps them feel more at ease—and we couldn’t agree more.

Ways We Support in Your Therapy Journey

Skills-Based Interventions

  • Have you ever felt like you spent your session talking to yourself? Maybe you hit a point where you weren’t getting exactly what you wanted or needed from therapy? We want something DIFFERENT for you!

Skills-based interventions in therapy are therapeutic approaches that focus on teaching specific skills or strategies to help manage emotions, behaviors, thoughts, and relationships more effectively. These interventions aim to help develop tools that you can use in everyday life to cope with challenges, improve mental well-being, and handle difficult situations more adaptively.

Rather than focusing only on discussing problems or exploring the past, skills-based therapies can equip you with practical skills that you can apply in real-world scenarios.

  • ~These are a few examples we use at Resilient Roots~

    • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Teaches skills for recognizing and challenging negative thoughts and behaviors, and replacing them with healthier, more balanced ways of thinking and responding to situations.

    • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Focuses on skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.

    • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): Designed for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, and incorporates parents or caregivers. TF-CBT helps individuals process trauma in a safe and controlled manner while teaching coping skills and strategies for managing emotional responses.

    • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. The central idea is that individuals have the skills and resources to create solutions to their issues, and therapy helps clients recognize and tap into these strengths. SFBT tends to be future-focused, focusing on what the client wants to achieve rather than exploring past problems.

  • We believe that talking with a trusted therapist is incredibly valuable! Through our experience, we’ve seen great results come from clients who not only engage in therapy but also learn specific skills that they can practice and use outside of sessions.

Skills-based interventions are used to build coping strategies and adaptive behaviors, helping you manage mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma impact, and more.

The goal is to empower you to navigate life’s difficulties with greater confidence and resilience, fostering long-term emotional well-being.
